California Current Acidification Network (C-CAN)

OA researchers Dr. Gretchen Hofmann (UCSB) and Dr. Andrew Dickson (UCSD) have begun working with the newly formed California Current Acidification Network (C-CAN) - a collaborative effort between members of the West Coast shellfish industry and scientists to explore what is causing shellfish losses on the Pacific coast, what role ocean acidification and other factors might be playing in this problem, and how to adapt to these changes in order to sustain West coast shellfish resources. The group emerged from the West Coast Ocean Acidification–Shellfish Workshop held July 7–8, 2010 in Costa Mesa, CA when participants and others interested in OA issues agreed on the need to facilitate and enhance communications and research collaborations among scientists, academia, agencies and industry.  More information can be found at the network's website -
